University of Pittsburgh Hillman Library Renovations

Project Background

The University of Pittsburgh hired SitelogIQ to perform building commissioning services for Phase 1A of renovations to Hillman Library. This project included complete building-wide infrastructure replacement, including all new fire suppression, mechanical and electrical systems, remediation of spray fireproofing, and architectural interior renovations. Phase 1 concentrated on exterior and interior infrastructure work in the basement, penthouse, and approximately 30,000 gross square feet of space on the 4th floor. Reconfiguration of the 4th floor created quiet-study spaces for students, a book stack area, staff service area, a PhD study room and faculty study room, as well as modifications to shelving spacing, restrooms, elevators, and stairs as required for ADA compliance. The renovation transformed the original 1968 Hillman Library into a LEED certified “library of the future” that operates 24/7.
