U.S. Department of Energy, Data Centers

Project Background

Lockheed Martin and SitelogIQ were chosen to partner with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to increase efficiency through data center consolidation and information technology enhancements for the DOE complex. Under a government-wide data center consolidation initiative, the DOE expected to close more than 800 agency data centers by 2025. LM and SitelogIQ designed projects that met the DOE Data Center sites’ energy and IT needs. Lockheed Martin and SitelogIQ provided the DOE with sustainable IT projects, such as data center consolidation, virtualization, and cloud computing. These projects helped the DOE to work toward its sustainability goals and save money for citizens. Projects under the program were required not only to create savings but also to generate positive annual cash flow to the DOE after financing costs. This was the first contract of its type awarded under the Federal Energy Savings Performance Contract program. This program focuses on achieving sustainability through improved IT.
